Oddly, they are more or less about the same thing.
Earlier today I lost about 8 hours of painstaking (and good!) work in a Photoshop crash. Long story short, I had repeatedly saved the smart object I was working on, but the parent file hadn’t been saved before the crash. For all you photoshop users out there it’s worth remembering that, if that happens to you, any and all the saving you did on the smart object is overwritten on restart and relaunch of the parent file.
Anyway, it was heartbreaking. I literally cried at my desk. Later on this evening Maxx was asking me why was “Dad sad?”. I told her it was because I lost something very important. She started looking around in earnest, which just about broke my heart, so I told her that I lost a really important picture on my computer.
Then she sort of lit up a bit and said, “Daddy, sit, chair. Maxx picture camera.” At first I didn’t know what she meant, but it became clear that she wanted to take a picture of me with her camera (she has an inherited an old point-and-shoot which she has filled with hundreds of blurry photos of her feet and the dog) to replace the picture I lost.

I think this picture more than replaces the one I lost.
We’re about 10 weeks away from adding a new person to our small family. Kim’s been busy getting Maxx’s room ready for Lucy* to share it with her, and so I thought I should start getting Maxx’s tumblr ready for Lucy to share.
[In case you’re interested, I used Jstn’s fantastic new High Res Theme as a starting point for the re-design. It’s a really beautiful (and beautifully-coded) theme that’s worth checking out if you’ve got an image-heavy tumblr.]
*Working title. We’re reserving the right to change this once we meet her.
Looking through old Maxx-Attaxx photos and found this one… <3
Little Person
It’s now been nearly two years—and exactly 200 posts—here at Maxx Attaxx. So here’s a short little video to RECord the moment.

Playing around with the new 8mm Vintage Camera app for iPhone. It actually has surprisingly high-quality effects, if a bit over-the-top. You can control the lens changes and jitter live by tapping during recording. Pretty fun for $2.

So yesterday while I was working Maxx was sitting next to me at my desk drawing for about twenty minutes. After she left I looked at what she made and realized that she is a genius.
On the left is Zachary’s business card which was sitting next to her. On the right is Maxx’s drawing.
I mean, come on.
