Making the Hangar 1 Neon Sign
This may be my favorite behind-the-scenes making video we’ve shot — I could watch people making typography out of glass all day.

Physical prototyping the MXDE coastal watch idea we posted awhile back.
Letterpress, laser cuts, and stamps, oh my!
Making coffee…
We just launched the new Hangar 1 Vodka website that we designed and developed (including fabricating a gigantic neon sign) over that last few months.
We’ve been working closely with them on the relaunch of their brand this last year, and can’t wait to show more of the work as it comes out in the coming months.
Western Daughters Butcher Shoppe
Coming soon to Denver. This is a project we are extremely excited about. The owners have been studying under some of the best New York butchers, and to hear them talk about meat is an eye-opening and wonderful experience.
The Made Shop has been working closely with them on everything from branding, graphic design, architecture, interior design, web design, uniforms, posters and much more.
Can’t wait to show the design progress here over the coming months as we bring this to life.
Finalizing the drawings and details for our bedroom loft. So excited to finish construction and move upstairs soon!
Grids are good.
Working on a new hitRECord book at the Made Shop this week…
LOOPER MOIRE TITLE TESTS
Just ran across these early Looper main title tests that I sent to Rian really early on in the design process. Initially we had talked about wanting the title to be extremely bold and induce a sense of vertigo. The title cuts in right after Joe’s first assassination, and was going to be a powerful moment.
Early on I had the idea of focusing on the two O’s in the title to represent the two Joe’s at different points in time, and when I combined that idea with wanting to induce a sense of overwhelming vertigo, I stumbled across the idea of generating large moire patterns from expanding concentric circles anchored on each O.
In the end, both Rian and I liked the simplest title (which is more or less unchanged from the first draft seen in here), but I just ran across these and thought I’d post ‘em — they were super fun to make.

The Fray Covers Album (click to see full-size)
We recently made this album cover with The Fray. They had self-produced an EP album of covers—which is one of my favorite things they’ve recorded—and they asked us to design the album cover.
The artwork concept we pitched is a fairly obvious pun — covers album, all covered up, get it? — but we had a ton of fun over a long weekend making it, and really love how it came out. Along with Ben (the drummer) and a few friends’ help, we wrapped literally every piece of equipment they own in their studio with white vinyl and built it all up into the background for the cover shot. We worked with photographer Michelle Wysocki to capture the final composition.
Check out the short time lapse video below that shows us making the whole thing and features their (wicked) cover of Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Maps.
